A way of organising and exploring the teachings, grounded in early sources and tested in lived practice.
What is the Dharma Matrix Project?
The Dharma Matrix Project is an exploratory teaching and practice project rooted in the early Buddhist suttas of the Pali Canon. It grew from a simple question:What happens if the teachings are followed as a path — carefully, sequentially, and experientially — rather than sampled or approached at random? Many contemporary retreats and courses explore powerful themes, often in isolation. Teachers frequently refer to the many “lists” the Buddha offered — practical frameworks, steps, and tools designed to support awakening — yet these are rarely explored as an integrated whole. The Dharma Matrix Project seeks to bring these teachings together in a coherent way, respecting both their sequence and their interconnectedness.
Why “Matrix”?
In the early teachings, the Buddha described experience as arising according to lawful patterns of cause and effect.Teachings return, overlap, condition one another, and deepen as they are revisited from different angles. They are not linear — yet they are not random. The word matrix is used here to point to this structure:
interdependence rather than hierarchy
sequence without rigidity
a path that loops, revisits, and reveals its connections over time
The Dharma Matrix is not a fixed system, but a field of relationships within which understanding can unfold.
The ApproachThe project brings together three elements:
Early sources: drawing directly from the suttas of the Pali Canon, using careful and reliable translations.
Sequential orientation: exploring the teachings step by step, while allowing space to return to earlier teachings as their connections become clearer.
Experiential learning: each teaching is explored not only conceptually, but through guided experiential meditations, allowing practitioners to test the teachings directly in their own experience.
This reflects what the Buddha encouraged:
investigation
testing teachings against experience
making the path accessible to ordinary people
How the Project is Being DevelopedThe Dharma Matrix Project is a living, evolving inquiry. It is being developed through:
long-term study of the suttas
carefully structured Dharma talks
experiential meditation practices aligned with each step of the path
ongoing exploration with small groups of dedicated practitioners
A visual map has also been created to support orientation, showing how the teachings relate, overlap, and connect as the path unfolds.
About the TeacherThis work is offered by Tanya Bee,
a certified mindfulness meditation teacher (MMTCP), trained counsellor, and somatic practitioner. The Dharma Matrix Project does not claim lineage authority or ordination.
It is not a declaration of doctrine, but an exploratory teaching project grounded in early sources, contemporary understanding, and lived practice.
Who This Is ForThe Dharma Matrix Project is for practitioners who:
already meditate or engage in contemplative practice
sense that their practice would benefit from greater coherence and orientation
are curious about how the early teachings interrelate as a path
wish to explore awakening as an experiential process, step by step
There is no requirement to advance.
Current StatusAt present, the Dharma Matrix Project exists as:
a structured, ongoing teaching and research project
a series of Dharma talks and experiential meditations
a developing visual and conceptual map of the path
Further material will be shared as the project continues to unfold.
A way of organising and exploring the teachings — grounded in early sources, tested in practice.
